Storage in the food industry can mean many things. Temperature controlled storage is often needed within a restaurant or cafeteria for perishable items, and storing equipment and cooking tools can create space constraints within any footprint- but what about the other things that are necessary for the food industry, such as packaging and processing equipment? Reiser has been leading the food industry in processing and packaging solutions for 57 years, and Donnegan Systems, Inc. recently helped them expand their business through the design of a space efficient warehouse racking system. ActivRAC is designed to help double the storage capacity within a warehouse setting by putting pallet racking on movable carriages, therefore eliminating unnecessary aisle space and opening up room for more carriages, more shelving, and more inventory.

Reiser decided to go with Donnegan Systems, Inc. because of our success with creating space and maximizing footprints. Warehouse space is extremely costly, so the project managers at Reiser were looking to utilize as much of their new space as possible. We worked alongside Boston Industrial to create this unique ActivRAC system for Reiser that would double their capacity within the same footprint and save them time, space, and money.

Reiser manufacturers equipment that helps the food industry process and package sausage, meat, poultry, seafood, prepared foods, bakery items, and cheeses. This custom designed mobile racking system will house a majority of their inventory, and allow for them to store more within their facility. Having a warehouse facility such as this one is an expensive undertaking for any company, but by maximizing their space with High Density Mobile pallet racking they will see a ROI much sooner than if they had used standard pallet racking.

As soon as Reiser opted to go with a mobile shelving solution, a 1440 foot trough was cut into the concrete floor for the ActivRAC recessed rail. On either side of the rails we used a special epoxi as well as MM80 cement to ensure long lasting and durable rails.

Although most of this system appears to be moveable, there are a few strategically placed carriages that do not move. Due to this break in the system, there were a total of six bus bars that had to be installed in order to carry power and communication throughout the system. These bus bars are mounted 27 feet in the air and attached to the ceiling and roof.

Another thing that makes this system so powerful is that each carriage contains a C motor. With eight powered carriages, that means eight C motors, and eight ways Reiser was able to increase their space savings and improve their efficiency.
