As storage experts that have worked across many markets and disciplines for over 40 years, it is safe to say we have seen some scary storage spaces. Some of them were scary in a deep dark dungeon sense, but others were scary simply because of the mayhem and disorganization we encountered. FEAR NOT! The latter is solvable and also preventable.

As you can see from the picture above, there are some scary storage areas out there. The above picture was a “before” photo of an evidence storage room in a police station. The below picture is a much less terrifying “after” picture. Using High Density Mobile Shelving this police station was able to get all of their evidence off of the floor and organized on shelves. Having solutions like High Density Mobile prevents any stacking of evidence, which makes it easier to locate and protects important items from being damaged.

When it comes to storing what is important, having a proper storage system as well as a proper organizational plan is necessary. In markets such as public safety a messy or unorganized storage area could lead to guilty criminal being acquitted. In less severe cases it could mean a misplaced library book leads to a student failing, or a priceless museum artifact becomes damaged. In any market the items and things that people store are important, so how they store it should be too. There are many audit control and security features that can be implemented to help keep the important things as secure as possible.

There are important steps that a company or organization will need to take in order to create their ideal storage space. A good place to start is to analyze your current storage area and come up with a list of criteria for what you need your new space to have. For some markets, such as public safety, this could mean taking into account state and federal laws that mandate certain processes and planning their storage space around those regulations. For others, such as the library market, this could mean taking into account future collections growth. If it is a higher education facility they will need to take into account a growing student population and consider centralizing or moving some of their storage areas off site.

In order to transform your scary storage space into an efficient and organized area you should involve a storage expert as early as you can. This way they can help you ask all the important questions, and design a tailored solution and layout that suits your workflow and needs.
